scenes from the woodshop

David reports in again from Tim’s remote Smithfield woodshop with visual proof of progress. Right now, it’s all about edge taping the walnut cabinet parts.

First, he rigged up an edge-taping management system…

Thanks for your posts. I always look forward to the updates on your project.
Do you think Tim might chime in with tips for working with walnut veneer and edgebanding? I’m contemplating making walnut slab doors for ikea boxes.

    tHANK YOU!

from the man himself: Custom doors (and drawer fronts, etc.) for Ikea boxes is a great way to go. Ikea uses Blum hardware (hinges, drawer slides) which is top-of-the-line German stuff. It can be a little tricky drilling for the hinge cups which are 35mm diameter, but there are jigs available for that. Rockler and Woodcraft are two good places for that stuff. This site has a good explanation of the 32mm system that European-style cabinetry is based on: http://davelers.com/32mm/Basics/157.html

  3. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as
