David reports in again from Tim’s remote Smithfield woodshop with visual proof of progress. Right now, it’s all about edge taping the walnut cabinet parts.
First, he rigged up an edge-taping management system…
Then he whipped up a way to hold the cab parts steady…
Then he applied heat…
Trimmed off the excess…
And VIOLA! Edge taped.

from the man himself: Custom doors (and drawer fronts, etc.) for Ikea boxes is a great way to go. Ikea uses Blum hardware (hinges, drawer slides) which is top-of-the-line German stuff. It can be a little tricky drilling for the hinge cups which are 35mm diameter, but there are jigs available for that. Rockler and Woodcraft are two good places for that stuff.
